Bryn Down fort
Cape Bryn Down, Somerset County, England
Description:
Bryn Down Fort, rises above sea level by almost 100 meters. It was built in a picturesque place of the Cape Bryn Down, which is 14 km from the sea resort town of Weston Super Mare, Somerset County.
Fort Brint Down was built in 1860 to defend the country from invasion by French troops. The history of the Fort of different years is filled with fascinating military facts. For example, during World War II, the Fort was used to launch experimental rockets and as a construction for coastal artillery. Some well-known weapons, such as the “jumping bomb”, for example, were tested thanks to Bryn Down Fort. On the walls of the fortress were placed powerful floodlights, lighting the way to their ships and blinding the enemy.
Bryn Down Fort has always been a military facility designed to hold a line of defense called the Palmerston Forts. It was also part of a strategic system aimed at destroying aerial missiles. Today, Bryn Down Fort is a historic building, it has been renovated, it is visited by tourists, and around it, dogs and goats walk on green pastures. The place is devoid of cars and teeming with wild animals and birds.
