Description:
Gloucester Cathedral is a cathedral church of the Gloucester Diocese. The building dates back to the 11th century, has been repeatedly renovated and is one of the most beautiful examples of world Gothic architecture. The cathedral stands on the site where the abbey was founded by King Ozrik of Northumbria in 681.
Gloucester Cathedral is the first extant cathedral building with a fan vault. He is well known for the Harry Potter films: it was this cathedral that turned into the Hogwarts school on the screen. Some parishioners were extremely unhappy that a film about witchcraft would be filmed in the temple, but the clergy believed that there would be no great trouble.
Some of the main attractions of the cathedral are the monument to Ozrik, the tomb of King Edward II and several magnificent stained glass windows, especially in the large window of the eastern facade.
