Highlands Park

London Rd, Writtle, Chelmsford, Essex CM2 8WQ, UK

Description:

Highlands Park is more than 500 hectares of well-kept areas located in close proximity to the city of Chelmsford. Originated in the XVIII century around a private estate with the same name, since 1966 it has become an open city park.

The Highlands Country Estate was built in 1730 as a modest red brick house. Throughout its history, it changed nine owners, and each of them changed the appearance of the building according to their tastes and fashion requirements of different eras. In 1966, after the death of the last private owner, Chelmsford City Council acquired the Highlands Manor and immediately opened the park to the public. Unfortunately, at that moment he was in a deplorable state. It took 20 years of restoration work and the efforts of the best gardeners and designers to create beautiful flower beds, magnificent lawns, artificial ponds.

Today, Highlands Park is a traditional holiday destination where you can enjoy hiking along specially designed routes, see a theater performance in the open air, ride in a horse-drawn carriage. Children certainly want to visit the playground, made in the form of an ancient castle, and adults are happy to go to the exhibitions of the guild of Essex masters, which are regularly arranged in the park.
