Bristol Town Hall
City Hall, College Green, Bristol, BS1 5TR
Description:
Bristol Town Hall is located in the city centre. The project was designed in 1930 by architect Vincent Harris, but construction began after World War II. In 1956, construction was completed and the City Hall was inaugurated by the Queen.
The building was formerly known as Council House or Council House, but was renamed by Bristol Mayor George Ferguson on the first day of taking office on 19 November 2012 as City Hall. With this gesture, he wanted to reflect the idea that the building belongs to the people, not the city council.
The walls of the monumental City Hall building are lined with red brick, the high and steep roof is decorated with gilded unicorns at the corners. The solemn entrance leads through a moat filled with water into a spacious foyer, the floor of which is paved with black and white Italian marble. From the foyer you can enter the conference hall, the Council Hall and 11 elegantly furnished rooms that can be rented for various events.
