Description:
Molyneux Stadium is a cult arena for many fans of the English Premier League. During its long history, it hosted many important matches with the participation of the England team. As from the beginning, Molyneux is the home of Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club.
The stadium was opened in 1889. Its original capacity was only 4,000 people. But soon the club, which rented the stadium, carried out a series of renovations, increasing the capacity to several tens of thousands.
The heyday of the stadium falls on the 40s and 50s of the last century, when the Wolverhampton Wanderers club experienced a peak of development. Then matches of the English Championship, some European cups and matches with the participation of the England team were held in the arena. And one of the main sporting events that took place at the stadium was the first UEFA Cup final in 1972.
Over the long history, the stadium has undergone many reconstructions. The modern appearance of the arena is a tribune with right angles and a flat roof. The stadium can accommodate 31,000 spectators. But more recently, the board of the local club announced ambitious plans for a number of renovations. So, according to plans, in the future the stadium will be able to accommodate about 50 thousand spectators.
