Duke Street

Duke St, Bath, Bath and North East Somerset BA2, UK

Description:

Duke Street in Bath was built by John Wood Sr. in 1748. It overlooks the Avon River. The street is pedestrian, vehicles are prohibited from entering.

Duke Street was part of a plan to build the Royal Forum, which included South Parade, Pierrepont Street and North Parade, similar to the Royal Square. But the Royal Forum was never completed. Wood designed facades made of local Bath stone, after which the builders completed the work, decorating the buildings in various interiors. Most of them are now hotels, but some remain privately owned.

Buildings 1 and 2 are known as the "Georgian House", and rooms 3 to 5 are part of the Southborn Hotel. The last building at number 14 adjoins North Parade Street.
