Kings Street Parade
Cambridge, Cambridgeshire CB2 1SJ, Great Britain
Description:
Historic King's Parade Street, located in the centre of Cambridge, is the city's main tourist area. On the west side of the street is King’s College with the famous chapel – one of the main examples of late English Gothic architecture. To the north of the street is Cambridge University's Senate House and St Mary's Church.
In the north, the street goes to Trinity Street, and in the south to Trumpington Street. Once there was a famous tavern "White horse", where in the XVI century gathered English Protestant reformers. The oldest bookstore in the UK was located at the south end of the street, now it is replaced by the publishing house and bookstore of the University of Cambridge.
At the moment, there are many tourist shops on the street, for example, the Primavera gallery and gift shop, the passages of St. Mary and St. Edward. And in 2008, in the south end of the street, a famous landmark was installed - "Corpus Clock" - a one-and-a-half-meter disk that does not have arrows and a dial. The role of arrows is “performed” by 60 slots illuminated by LEDs.
