Dunster Castle
Minehead, Dunster, Somerset TA24 6SL, United Kingdom
Description:
Dunster Castle is located in Somerset County, near Exmoor Natural Park. Thanks to this neighborhood, an amazing combination of gray antiquity and magnificent nature is formed. The founder of Dunster Castle is Baron Wilhelm de Moyon. For the construction of the fortress, an impregnable hill called Tor was chosen.
During the long history of the castle, it was owned only by two families - Lettrela and Mogany, who are still its owners. The fortress acquired its current appearance after the Civil War - the central gates were expanded to open access to carriages, spacious windows appeared instead of narrow loopholes, and a beautiful park of 6 hectares stretched around.
Dunster Castle blends harmoniously into the surrounding landscape: ancient walls and towers are buried in the greenery of centuries-old trees. Most of it is made in the Gothic style. The highlight of the building is a high round tower with a top in the shape of a cone, on which the flag develops. Above the arched entrance is the national symbols of the county. In the western part of the building are medieval sculptures and stucco details. Dunster Castle is the most romantic and picturesque in Somerset.
