Launceston Castle
Castle Lodge, Launceston, Cornwall - PL15 7DR
Description:
Launceston Castle today is the ruins of a structure built in the XI century. It is part of the English heritage and attracts many tourists with its history. The castle was originally built to guard the road to Cornwall, but later became the residence of the Earls of Cornwall.
The exact date of construction is not known, but it is known that the castle already existed in 1067. It was built on a large natural hill and was originally wooden, but over the next centuries underwent several reconstructions and in the 13th century was a well-fortified defensive point with stone walls. Over time, the castle began to lose its importance and gradually fell into decline - already in 1650, part of the castle was destroyed.
Today on the site of the castle you can see only the remains of its former beauty and grandeur. On the territory of the castle there is a souvenir shop, an overview of the 1000-year history of the castle. You can also climb the tower and enjoy the impressive view of the district.
