Nunney Castle
2 Castle St, Frome, Somerset BA11 4NH, United Kingdom
Description:
Nunney is a small castle located in a village of the same name in Somerset County, England. It was built by Sir John Delamar at the end of the fourteenth century with money received for his participation in the Hundred Years War. At the end of the XVI century it was rebuilt, currently the building is in a dilapidated state and is preserved as a tourist attraction.
Nunni Castle is quite small, it consists of only one fortress building, which is surrounded by a deep, water-filled moat. The construction plan is very unusual. It is based on four round large towers, of which the northern and southern pairs are close to each other. At the western and eastern facades of Nunni Castle, between two pairs of towers, lie long stretches of a massive wall.
Nunni Castle is lined with beautiful hewn stone, and the top of the towers and walls is decorated with perpendicular teeth. This structure has no external buildings, to the very base comes a huge water ditch. The interior of Nunni Castle is made in medieval style.
