Historical Tudor House Museum

Bugle Street, Southampton SO14 2AD, United Kingdom

About the company:

The historic Tudor House Museum, located in Southampton's Old Town, was built in 1180. Over the centuries, many owners have changed here. At the end of the XIX century, when the house was under threat of demolition, local philanthropist William Spranger bought the house. For 12 years he led a campaign to turn the house into a museum, which was inaugurated in 1912. By the end of the XX century, the building became rather dilapidated due to poor repairs and lack of time. To preserve the museum, a complete reconstruction of the building was started. It lasted nine years, and only in 2011 the house-museum reopened its doors to visitors.

The house contains original artifacts, clothes, household items, books and photographs that contain information about the lives of people who lived and worked here. Advanced technology, sound and light shows provide visitors with a unique opportunity to participate in scenes from the lives of former residents of this house. They plunge into the atmosphere of the centuries-old history of old Southampton.

On the territory of the museum there is a cozy cafe with a view of a beautiful garden with a fountain, a gazebo and many flowers intoxicating with their aroma. This amazing place is ideal for a family holiday.
