Viking Museum
Jorvik Viking Centre, York, North Yorkshire Y01 9WT, UK
About the company:
The Viking Museum, located in York, was created on the site of archaeological excavations. Within the walls of the museum, all the buildings of the Vikings were recreated in detail, and the residents themselves were created from wax figures. Surprisingly, even smells are reproduced in the museum!
The building of the museum was built on the site of excavations of the settlement, in which household items were found, as well as parts of houses, toilets and other buildings of the Norman conquerors of the X century. Valuable are the finds of bones, weapons, dishes, tools, utensils and other items made of leather, fabric, wood and metal.
Visitors make a trip between the houses of the Vikings and can watch their usual activities: laying coins, fishing, domestic quarrels and others. In the Viking settlement, goose groans and rooster cries are heard. With the help of all the artifacts provided in the museum, the atmosphere of the X century is recreated.
Every year, the Viking Festival takes place in the museum building in the form of various performances. Food establishments of York offer visitors to try dishes prepared according to ancient recipes.
