Museum Gardens, Museum Street, York YO1 7FR, United Kingdom
About the company:
The Yorkshire Museum opened in 1830 in a magnificent Victorian building. Its first keeper was the famous geologist John Phillips.
The museum’s four permanent exhibitions have the status of “outstanding collections of international importance” and cover biology, geology, archaeology and astronomy. The collection of biology contains about 200 thousand samples of flora and fauna. Here are stuffed animals and remains of animals that lived about 125 million years ago. An extensive exhibition in the Geology Gallery includes about 120,000 samples of rocks, minerals and fossils.
The astronomical exposition is stored mainly in the observatory of the museum. In specially equipped cabins, visitors can make a virtual flight into space, feeling like conquerors of the Universe.
The archaeological collection contains about 500,000 artifacts found in and around York. The museum carries out serious scientific work on the preservation of historical heritage, international conferences and exhibitions are held.
