Mangupps Railway Museum

Southminster Rd, Burnham-on-Crouch ESSEX, UK

About the company:

The Mangupps Railway Museum is one of the largest private collections of operating locomotives, freight and passenger cars, as well as all kinds of equipment related to the railway. This is an excellent place for a memorable family holiday in the fresh air.

The family of Jolly, who lives in a farm near the town of Burnham-on-Crouch in Essex, found an amazing occupation for themselves – they have been collecting railway equipment and everything that has anything to do with the history of the railway for three decades. Their collection began with the purchase of the former Mangupps station waiting room. Two years later, the entire station moved to the waiting room. Just imagine how much work and genuine enthusiasm it took to disassemble and collect historic buildings in a new place. And that was just the beginning.

Today, the collection includes more than two dozen locomotives, almost 80 units of rolling stock, with almost all in working condition, and the largest collection of signaling equipment in the UK. There is a museum where numerous exhibits are collected. But that’s not all – the Jolly family owns a small section of the existing railway track, on which you can make a small but very exciting journey on ancient locomotives.

The museum invites visitors every Saturday and Sunday. On the same days, trains are open.
