St Matthew's Church in Widcombe

Widcombe Hill, Widcombe, Bath, Avon, BA2 6AA

Description:

St. Matthew’s Church in Widcombe is the largest church in Bath, after the city’s abbey. The pointed spire of its tower has become an integral feature of the local landscape, through which everyone can easily find the way to the temple.

The church was built in 1846-1847 by local architect George Manners. It is made of local light stone and has obvious signs of Victorian style.

Its spacious rooms have long been actively used for their intended purpose. However, in the 70s of the XX century, the number of parishioners decreased sharply, and regular worship was discontinued. Immediately after that, the hall was reconstructed in order to give it new functions. So benches were made to free up a beautiful parquet floor for classes such as dancing or aerobics.

The building is actively used for conferences, public meetings, parties. Its spacious light squares are quite suitable for exhibitions and solemn dinners. Having your own kitchen greatly expands the range of possible activities.
