Paltney Bridge

Pulteney Bridge, Bath, Bath and North East Somerset BA2 4AY

Description:

The beautiful arched Paltney Bridge over the Avon River, built in the XVIII century, is now not only a famous tourist site and historically significant structure, but also remains an active road and pedestrian bridge. Its length is 300 meters, width is 18 meters.

The Paltney Bridge was designed by architect Robert Adam and named after the wife of the famous lawyer and MP William Paltney. It was intended to connect the central part of Bata with the opposite bank of the Avon River. The elegant facade in the style of Palladio against the background of the river gives the architecture of the bridge romance and charm. On both sides of the bridge there are a number of rooms that are now used for shops and benches. Paltney Bridge is considered a monument of Bath architecture and helps to understand the style and history of this English town.
