Roman Catholic Church of John the Theologian

4-8 S Parade, Bath, Bath and North East Somerset BA2 4AB, UK

Description:

The Roman Catholic Church of St. John is located on South Parade Street. The decorative 68-meter spire of the church, made in the Gothic style, rises above the city skyline. Its majestic interior perfectly reflects the Middle Victorian period in architecture – polished marble columns, a solemn main altar of white marble on colored marble columns, surrounded by stained glass windows exquisite confessional illustrations of scenes from the life of John the Theologian and four chapels – each worthy of attention.

The church was built between 1861-1863, and the spire was completed in 1867. The shrine with the relics of St. Justina of Padua was added in 1871. It is also home to one of the four church parishes in the city. The church’s eight bells are known for their richness and purity of sound. In St. John's, you can enjoy both playing the organ and singing one of the two choirs.
