Milsom Street

Milsom St, Bath, Bath and North East Somerset BA1, UK

Description:

Millsom Street in Bath was built in 1762 by Thomas Lightholder. It was originally intended to house residential buildings, but most have evolved into shops, offices and banks over time. In 2010, in the “Best Street” category of Google Street View, 11,000 users recognized Millsom Street as the “Best Fashion Street in the UK”.

Most of the buildings here are three-story, with mansard roofs and Corinthian columns. The bank building, located at number 24, stands out among the rest of the details in the Baroque style. Millsom Street is home to the Somersetshire Buildings and the Octagon Chapel (formerly a place of worship and now a restaurant).

As the busiest Georgian-style secular street, Millsom Street is mentioned in several works by Jane Austen, including Northanger Abbey and Persuasion.
