Description:
The Belfast Botanical Garden covers an area of 110,000 square meters, and is a popular holiday destination among residents of the city.
This botanical garden was opened in 1840 and was designed by Charles Lanyon, an English architect who worked on many public buildings in Northern Ireland. Here is the Palm House - a greenhouse, divided into two wings. The first maintains a moderate temperature, and the second recreates a tropical climate. The size of the dome above the left wing was increased to accommodate taller trees.
One of the main attractions of the garden is the Australian lily, which blossomed in 2005 after 23 years of waiting. In addition, the park hosts concerts of pop and rock musicians, and the largest of them was the performance of the legendary Irish band U-2. At the entrance there is a monument to the famous Belfast native physicist William Thompson. On the territory of the botanical garden is not allowed to drink alcohol, but a wide range of soft drinks is provided.
