George Best Airport
Description:
The airport, which opened in 1937, was formerly known as "Belfast City Airport", but in 2006 it was decided to rename it in memory of George Best, the legendary footballer from Belfast, who played for the national team of Ireland. This airport serves more than 2 million passengers annually.
Despite the fact that it is long overdue to expand the territory and volume of serviced flights, the airport management, under pressure from local residents, was forced not only to abandon these plans, but also to impose strict restrictions on the time of flight acceptance. The fact is that there are residential areas nearby, and the noise of taking off and landing aircraft is very annoying to their residents. Flights are currently serviced between 6:30 and 21:30 hours, and no more than 48,000 take-offs and landings can be performed here per year.
The modest dimensions of George Best Airport make it quite cozy and comfortable. Passengers are provided with a car park, cafeteria, Wi-Fi area, duty-free shop and souvenir sales department.
