Holyrood Palace (Holyrood)

Description:

Holyrood Palace. The ancient residence, keeping the memory of the tragic and brilliant events of the Middle Ages, dates back to the 12th century, and for 6 centuries acquired its present features. Here spent the brightest years of her life the famous Scottish Queen Mary Stuart (Marie Steward). The bedroom of Mary Stuart, her personal belongings, and many other relics of Scottish monarchs are preserved. Holyrood is now a royal residence and the Queen spends two weeks here each year. The palace contains many interesting relics and works of art.

Visit to the church in the village of Rosslyn (Roslin). A masterpiece of Masson architecture of the 15th century, a chapel covered from top to bottom with carvings on white stone, with many still unsolved symbols. The chapel became famous thanks to the book and the film The Da Vinci Code (it is here, according to the author, the Holy Grail was found). Perhaps the chapel is a repository of countless treasures of the Knights Templar, the legendary chalice of the Holy Grail, the Cross of the Lord and priceless ancient manuscripts.

Visit the Glenkinchie distillery, where Edinburgh malt whiskey is produced. Lowland winery, the closest to Edinburgh. In addition to the tour, you can taste whiskeys from different regions of Scotland and understand their differences from each other. Perfect for your first visit.
