University of Glasgow

University Avenue, Glasgow, Lanarkshire G12 8QQ, United Kingdom

Description:

The University of Glasgow is one of the oldest universities in Europe, founded in 1451. It is the second most popular university in Scotland, after the University of St Andrews. Now it teaches both medicine, law, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and technical disciplines, social and natural sciences, ancient and modern languages, theology, literature and history.

The University of Glasgow consists of four colleges, each of which in turn includes several faculties. These are the College of Medicine, the College of Arts, the Colleges of Natural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, and the Colleges of Engineering and Social Science.

Initially, the University of Glasgow was located in one of the premises of the cathedral, and later moved to a separate building, built in the neo-Gothic style by the famous architect George Gilbert Scott. The University of Glasgow is the second largest neo-Gothic building in the UK, after Westminster Abbey in London. The main attraction of the building is a luxurious wide tower, decorated from bottom to top with huge arched windows.
