Parker Library

Trumpington St, Cambridge CB2 1RH, UK

Description:

Parker Library is located on the grounds of Corpus Christie College in Cambridge. It is a treasure trove of medieval manuscripts, old printed books, as well as works of the Renaissance, which have survived to the present day.

Corpus Christie College, where the library is located, was founded in 1352. The library itself is named after a well-known benefactor, Archbishop Matthew Parker, who donated more than 400 manuscripts in 1574. The library's collection retains a significant portion of Anglo-Saxon manuscripts, including the earliest copy of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle of 890.

Old English texts and unique copies of ancient poems are presented here. Readers of the library have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with key Anglo-Norman texts and a magnificent collection of English manuscripts, which include the “Great Chronicle” of Matthew of Paris from 1240-1270.
