Tour to the Tower of London
Description:
William of Norman introduced the new Norman dynasty. After winning the Battle of Hastings in October 1066, killing the last Anglo-Saxon king, he accepted the surrender of London, and by Christmas 1066 he was crowned (the first of the kings) in the new Westminster Abbey. He makes Westminster the capital of the new kingdom and begins the construction of defensive castles. The Tower of London is the first of many castles it builds across England. The White Tower is the first building in the complex, dating from 1071, during the reign of William of Norman.
Although the Tower of London has been used as a prison since 1100, its original meaning is a royal residence, a secure fortress and a symbol of royal power. It was the kings who built, fortified and used the castle.
During the tour we will trace the history of the Tower, how it was used by the kings, what was the way of life and way of life. The castle is a beautiful defensive fort that could threaten the royal peace.
We're going to talk about prisoners at the Tower of London. Let's answer the questions: Who are the Beefiters and what ceremonies are still held here? What traditions of the Tower were associated with kings? Who was executed here? Where did the legend of the crows come from and who killed the young princes?
At different times, the Tower performed various functions: the royal mint was located here, there was an observatory, a menagerie, an arsenal, royal regalia were stored here.
We will see an invaluable treasure trove of royal jewels, which are still used at the coronation. We will watch a short film from the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 and I will talk about the sacred meaning of the ceremony.
The White Tower has a beautiful collection of knightly armor and weapons of different eras. The exhibits cover other aspects of the Tower of London.
To finish the tour, we can admire the beautiful views of London from the legendary Tower Bridge. I highly recommend visiting the bridge building museum. Informative and beautiful!
In the dock of St. Catherine, in the beautiful tavern The Dickens Inn you can relax, have a delicious lunch and drink fresh ale!
