Visiting the Tower of London is one of the great opportunities to get in touch with the medieval history of London.
The castle, dating from the 11th century, preserves its legends, riddles, tragedies and rituals. At different times, the Tower performed different functions: prisons, arsenal and repositories of royal jewels.
It housed the royal mint, observatory and menagerie. Six prisoners were executed, five of them women.
