Walking tour of the main attractions of the Westminster area
Description:
Westminster was west of the City, outside the City Wall and outside the City of London administration, meaning it was not technically part of London. Since Anglo-Saxon times, Torney Island has been a religious center in the west. According to legend, the Church of St. Peter was built here in the 7th century. In the 10th century, St. Dunstan, Archbishop of Canterbury, founded a Benedictine abbey here, on the territory of which later King Edward the Confessor lays the foundation of his new church, and also builds a palace - the official London residence, which served as home to English kings until 1512. That's how City of Westminster came into being. (I’ll tell you all about this story during the tour.)
We will talk about the Royal and Administrative London. It is here that the history of the monarchy is closely intertwined with political and administrative life. You are waiting for secrets, scandals, ceremonies and revelations of history. We will talk about how the relations of the king with the barons and Parliament were built, about the royal dynasties, who with what reputation went down in history, about religion, the Cromwell Republic, religious and dynastic wars, about the emergence and preservation of traditions.
You will plunge into the legendary London of three royal palaces: Whitehall, St. James and Buckingham, see “the greatest of the free European shows” – the changing of the guards, walk through the magnificent royal parks St. James and Green, where we feed the birds and squirrels and take beautiful photos.
I'll show you the oldest shops in London, Gentlemen's Street, Trafalgar Square, Downing Street, state administrative buildings, Old and New Scotland Yard, London Eye, Westminster Bridge, of course the Parliament building with the legendary clock tower, Big Ben, and Westminster Abbey - the place of coronation, weddings and burial of English kings, as well as prominent people of the nation. .
We will cover key moments from the life of the Royal family and the latest news from the Parliament. I'll show you small streets and old hidden pubs where you can have a snack after the tour.
See you soon!
