Buxton Memorial Fountain
1 Millbank, London SW1P 3JU, UK
Description:
The Buxton Memorial Fountain was erected to commemorate the passage of a law abolishing slavery in the British Empire in 1833. It is located in the Victoria Tower Gardens.
It was designed by architect Samuel Sanders Taylon in 1865 and dedicated to the English reformer, MP Sir Thomas Buxton.
The fountain is a structure made in the Gothic style. This is a marble octahedron with a spire, decorated with gray and pink granite, red sandstone, forged metal elements and mosaics.
It was originally decorated with eight ornamental figures of British rulers, but unfortunately they were all stolen.
