Statue of Emperor Trajan
Next to the old Roman wall, near Tower Hill, London, UK
Description:
The statue of Emperor Trajan is located near the Tower of London, right next to the old Roman wall. Despite the fact that the city itself was founded in 43 AD, during the reign of Emperor Claudius, and the connection between Trajan and the city is not clear, its appearance is more often used in architectural and picturesque compositions of London than the images of other emperors: this monument, Nelson's column and some other paintings and monuments.
Trajan's role in the fate of Britain and its capital is unclear. Probably the use of his image is a tribute to the traditions of art of the XVII-XIX centuries, nothing more. The Romans were able to pass on a genetic memory to the peoples of Europe about the “OPTIMVS PRINCEPS”, the founder of Rome, who became a kind of mythological figure for many nations. Alas, the other emperors of Holy Rome can not boast of such popularity.
