Westminster cathedral
Clergy House, 42 Francis Street, London, Greater London SW1P 1QW
Description:
The building of Westminster Cathedral stands out from other buildings in London.
Its execution in the Byzantine style of red brick with peculiar white stripes was forced, because due to lack of finance, the designers were forced to abandon the Gothic style. Construction of the cathedral began in 1862 and has not been completed until now. The interior decoration and exterior decoration remained unfinished, but in general Westminster Cathedral looks quite harmonious and finished.
The building includes several chapels, as well as a single bell tower, which is located at an altitude of 90 meters. At its very top is a cross, which, according to legend, contains parts of the cross on which Jesus was crucified. The rest of the decoration of the bell tower was donated: the statue of Our Lady by an unknown patron, the bell by the Duchess of Gwendolen, and the magnificent marble pulpit by Cardinal Burne.
The building of the cathedral is constantly open to visitors, and you can see it with your own eyes in all its splendor.
