Jeffrey Museum

Kingsland Road, London E2 8EA

About the company:

The Jeffrey Museum is named in honor of Robert Jeffrey because at the beginning of the XVIII century, nursing homes were built, one of which is now a museum. It focuses on the history of British furniture, home textiles, painting and applied arts, as well as the English interior, or rather how it has changed over the centuries.

The museum presents interiors not of the aristocracy, but of the middle class - starting from the XVII century and ending with modernity. It consists of eleven rooms, or rather just rooms, living at first glance. Each hall is furnished in the spirit of a specific historical era, starting from the XVII century and ending with modernity. Each room is a living room where guests were received. Traditionally, it was here that the best furniture and works of art that were in families were exhibited.

Going consecutively from room to room, you can see the evolution of the interior of the average house in London. In the XVII century, for example, reigned oak furniture and a huge fireplace, but in the XVII century began to appear Chinese porcelain and oriental furniture. The view from the window was also considered important - from each room there is a window to the thematic garden corresponding to this era. The most valuable exhibits of the collection are dining and tea sets, ceramics and glass, cutlery. The museum building itself is considered a landmark and a valuable exhibit of the collection.
