Croydon Airport
Description:
Croydon Airport is a legendary monument of British aviation history. Until 1959 - an active passenger airport, now - a park and a hotel complex.
Croydon was the first passenger airport in the UK to serve Albion since 29 March 1920. Here was built a luxurious terminal - a monument of art deco architecture.
In the fifties of the XX century, it was decided to close Croydon - due to the impossibility of its expansion and the proximity of regular urban development. The airport became a monument to British pilots and testers, on its territory a park was laid out, whose alleys were named after legendary pilots of the past - Charles Lindbergh, Emmy Johnson and Burt Hinkler. Hotels have been built on the territory of the airport, but everything here reminds of its former role in the history of the country.
