Arched Hume Arch Bridge
Stretford Rd, Manchester M15, UK
Description:
The arched Hume Arch Bridge is a perfect example when creative design combined with advanced engineering technologies were able to create a real architectural miracle, from the amazing lines of which it is difficult to take your eyes off.
This bridge is different than beautiful and difficult to call. Its length is only 52 meters. A curved metal arch with a height of 25 meters connects diagonally its two opposite ends. Eleven heavy-duty cables are fixed on one half of the arch, the same number on the other. With these cables, the bridge is suspended in the air. The design looks light, soaring and very elegant. When looking at the bridge from the side involuntarily there are associations with the harp, so elegant look metal strings-ropes fixed on the arched arc.
From different points, the bridge looks completely different, so looking at the photos, it is not always possible to understand that we are talking about the same structure – this is also its uniqueness. It is especially good at night, when the backlight is repeatedly reflected on metal surfaces.
The Hume Arch Bridge was awarded five prestigious architectural awards.
