Chethams Library

Long Millgate, Manchester, M3 1SB, United Kingdom

Description:

The Chetham Library began its continuous operation in 1653. It has collections of magazines, printed works and various publications, some of which belong to the XVI-XVII centuries.

The building, which eventually began to be used as a library, was first built as a house for a local landlord. Then there was a school for boys. A free library appeared here in 1653 when Humphrey Chetham bought the building. In the future, the curators of the library tried to find valuable publications to complement the existing collection.

Readers and visitors of the library do not need to pay anything, as all services are provided completely free of charge.
