Church of Christ

11 Schofield St. Leigh, Greater Manchester WN7 4HT, United Kingdom

Description:

The Church of Christ is a functioning Anglican church in Pennington, built in neo-Gothic style in 1854. The building was built of hewn stone and sandstone, and covered with a tiled roof. On the south-eastern side of the building stands a wide square tower 35 meters high, on which there is a bell tower with four bells of different sizes. On the south side of the tower hangs a large clock, masterfully decorated with stucco. Wide church windows are cut with thin openwork patterns and stained glass windows.

In the center of the church hall is a high altar of white marble, which in the gentle rays of the sun acquires a pink hue. Through the entire church hall stretches beveled arcade, which rests a number of octagonal columns with stucco. On both sides of the altar are hung old paintings with images of saints. Church benches, made in the Gothic style, are located between the columns.
