St. James' Church

18 Stenner Ln, Manchester, Greater Manchester M20 2RQ, UK

Description:

The Anglican parish church of St James in Broton belongs to the diocese of Manchester. The building was built in 1879 in the neo-Gothic style of sandstone and hewn stone.

On the south side of the church stands a tower 42 meters high, in which there is a bell tower with three bells of different sizes and shapes, which creates an unusually beautiful chime. On the west side of the tower there is a mechanical clock with stucco. Heavy cast iron doors are decorated with coinage. The wide stained glass windows fascinate with their beauty.

In the center of the church hall is a wooden carved altar, above which hang ancient icons. Massive cast iron columns are lined up in two rows and separated by the nave. The vaults of the church are skillfully painted with unusually bright colors, they depict British saints. To the right of the altar arch is an organ niche.

The church has a parish school, which is attended by children from five to sixteen years. Also in the temple there is a church choir, known for its chants.
