Church of St. Michael and All Angels

672 Liverpool Rd, Eccles, Manchester, Greater Manchester M30 7LP, UK

Description:

The Church of St. Michael and All Angels in Manchester belongs to the Anglican Church, it impresses guests and residents of the city with its external and internal decoration. The foundation stone was laid by the Bishop of Manchester on 8 May 1937. James Clayton built the church with his son Dayton. The need to build this monastery arose due to the fact that the nearby Church of St. Wilfrid could no longer accommodate a growing community of 100,000 parishioners.

The Church of St. Michael and All Angels is surrounded on three sides by a magnificent old park. The building of the temple is made of red brick, in plan it looks like a star enclosed in a square. The roof of the structure is flat, it is supported by massive columns, and in its center a cross rises. Although placing the altar in the centre of the building is not considered correct, the church's plan has been hailed as ingenious by Britain's top critics. Vaulted windows located at the top of the building give the church openwork and allow enough light to pass through.
