Description:

The Anglican parish church of St. Peter in Ashton-under-Line is part of the diocese of Manchester. The building was built in 1824 in the neo-Gothic style of hewn stone and covered with slate roofs.

In the western part of the building, a wide square tower with buttresses 36 meters high was erected. On it in 1840 a clock with a drive shaft was installed. On the upper level of the tower is a bell tower with two open pointed arches, which consists of eight bells of different shapes and sizes. Around the perimeter of the church built small turrets with spires. High lancet windows are cut with thin openwork carvings. On the front side of the building there is a large round window decorated with stained glass.

Inside the church hall there is a wide nave, in each compartment of which there is a light window. Massive cast iron columns are painted under stone and decorated with pilasters. Above the white marble altar are small stained glass windows depicting the twelve apostles. The organ niche is located to the left of the altar. The Church of St. Peter is a unique architectural monument and is very popular among tourists.
