Chapel on Cross Street
Cross Street, Manchester M2 1NL, United Kingdom
Description:
The Cross Street Chapel is a Uniate church located in the centre of Manchester. She takes an active part in the religious and civil life of the city. The beginning of its activity dates back to 1694, when a non-conformist prayer house was opened in the city, which later became a unitary one.
During World War II, the church was completely destroyed in an air raid, and in 1959 a Uniate chapel opened in a new building on Cross Street. In 1996, the building had to be rebuilt after the terrorist attack in Manchester.
In 1997, the chapel resumed its activities in a new room. At first glance, it doesn’t look like a church. This is a new two-story building, however, once inside, you realize that you find yourself in a spiritual oasis in the city center. In the center of the church hall there is a small wooden altar, to the left of which there is an organ niche, from where wonderful music pours. Wide stained glass windows and paintings with images of saints hanging on the walls attract attention. All kinds of community meetings and concerts are held here. In the chapel there is a church choir, without chants of which no church ceremony can do.
