Salford Cathedral
250 Chapel St, Salford, Greater Manchester M3 5LL, United Kingdom
Description:
The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Salford was built in 1848 in the neo-Gothic style. In the temple stands a high square tower with a spire, whose height is 72 meters. On the south side of the courtyard there is a bell tower in which eight bells of interesting tubular shapes of different sizes are installed. The windows are decorated with stained glass drawings from the life of St. John.
The church hall is striking in its beauty, in the center of which there is a nave surrounded by high marble columns with pilasters. In the altar niche there is a white marble altar decorated with mosaics. On both sides of it are hung ancient icons with images of saints. The new Makin organ, which was installed in 2002, is a four-lever digital device that replaces the old one. The wonderful singing of the church choir to the music of the organ leaves unforgettable impressions.
