Blackfriars Bridge

42 Blackfriars St, Manchester M3, UK

Description:

One of Manchester’s many attractions is the Blackfriars stone arch bridge, which was completed in 1820. It replaced an old wooden structure that was built in 1721 by a group of comedians who wanted to pave the way to their theater across the Irwell River.

The structure was designed by the famous architect Thomas Wright, and built of sandstone in the form of three arches. In order not to pollute the river, in 1870 the balustrade finish of the building was replaced by cast iron. In 1988, the bridge was included in the list of the main attractions of England.

Currently, the bridge attracts many tourists from all over the world. Often here you can meet couples in love, admiring the beautiful panorama of the city. Fortunately, nowadays access to the building is absolutely free, as well as travel on it. Having visited here, you can enjoy the medieval architecture firsthand and take beautiful pictures.
