98 Corporation St, Manchester, Greater Manchester M4 3AJ, United Kingdom

Description:

The Bridge on Corporation Street is an indoor pedestrian bridge between the Arndale and M&S buildings that crosses a street in central Manchester. It was built in place of the old bridge, which was completely destroyed during the terrorist attack in Manchester in 1996. The project of a new pedestrian bridge won a design competition in 1997. Rapid construction began, which was completed in 1999.

The new bridge is unique in design and shape - its glass case has the shape of a hyperboloid rotation. It is a giant pipe 18 meters long in diameter 6.2 meters and consists of 18 steel structures connected by a circular hoop. On this powerful stainless steel frame, glass triangular panels of different sizes and shapes are fixed. The geometry of the bridge is very interesting, when viewed from its end, it seems that a person is inside a crystal shimmering with different colors. The entire structure weighs 28 tons. The bridge is the winner of numerous awards, it symbolizes the revival of Manchester from the terrorist attack, as it is located on the site of the epicenter of the explosion.
