St. Peter's Square
87-89 Mosley St, Manchester M2 3LR, UK
Description:
One of the most popular places in Manchester is St. Peter’s Square, located right in the city center. It was named after a church built nearby. The main attraction of the square is the Manchester Gardens, which are a real paradise oasis located in the middle of a bustling metropolis.
In 1819, St. Peter’s Square became very popular, where a bloody drama took place between the troops and the protesters, who demanded reforms in the electoral system. In English history, this event was commemorated as the Peterloo Massacre.
Currently, in the center of the square is the building of the Central Library, built in 1934 by the famous architect Wright. This building is the largest municipal library in the world. There is also a Free Trade Hall building. From St. Peter’s Square, you can see part of the Manchester Town Hall, located in nearby Albert Square.
