Dunham Massey Manor

Woodhouse Lane, Dunham, Altrincham WA14 4SJ, UK

Description:

Dunham Massey is an old manor located in the vicinity of Manchester. This is a beautiful corner of almost untouched nature with a park, garden and the ancestral palace of the Earls of Stamford.

The history of the estate begins in 1616 with the construction of the first palace. It was in the same place as the current one, but it looked completely different. The last restructurings date back to 1905-1908. Roger Gray, 10th Earl of Stamford, donated his ancestral estate together with the surrounding lands to the National Endowment in 1976. Since then, this area has become open to visitors and has become a place of recreation and direct communication with nature.

In the garden park Dunham Massey there are oaks planted in the XVII century. It is the only park in the northwest of England with so many ancient trees. In dense thickets found shelter hares, foxes, squirrels and almost 60 species of birds. Here live and deer – park workers regularly feed these cute animals, and they are almost not afraid of people.

In the garden, occupying part of the territory, depending on the time of year, you can observe yellow fields of daffodils, flaming glades of tulips, lush flowering of roses and the autumn coolness of chrysanthemums. Park staff conduct daily tours of the palace and garden. On the territory of the estate, in the old room of the former stables, there is a souvenir shop and a restaurant. By the way, vegetables for him are grown directly on the territory of Dunham Massey.
