Church of St. Virgin Mary in Oxford
Description:
The Church of St. Mary is the largest church in Oxford and the center from which the history of the University of Oxford originates.
The church was built in the XIII century and almost immediately was adapted for the first university building. In the same century, the Council House was built, where the first university library in history was located.
Currently, the Church of St. Mary is the most popular parish church in Britain.
Among tourists, the church is popular due to the views that open from its gallery. Climbing to the tower of the XIII century, you can enjoy the delightful views of Oxford, as well as look inside the city places that are hidden from prying eyes. One of these places is the courtyard of the College of All Souls of the Righteously Dead, where only graduate students and graduates spend their time working.
Visitors also have an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with the choir of the Church of St. Mary and hear the famous organ installed in 1986.
