Falkland Palace
Falkland, Cupar, Fife KY15 7BY, UK
Description:
The Falkland Palace is one of the most amazing and beautiful in Scotland. It is built in the style of the French Chateau and is associated with the life story of Mary Stuart - the famous Scottish Queen. Falkland Castle was originally built as a hunting lodge between 1450 and 1455. Then it passed into the possession of King James and was inherited by his descendants, who continuously completed and reconstructed it.
After a recent restoration, Falkland Castle has regained its former splendor. Now guests can admire the King and Queen’s Bedrooms, as well as the Old Library in its original form. Particularly noteworthy is the Royal Chapel, dating from 1633. The southern and eastern facades are decorated with pilasters made in 1537-1542 in the style of the French Renaissance.
Around the Castle there is a magnificent garden, made in the classical English style with many greenhouses and the oldest tennis court in England, built in 1539. In general, the building creates a romantic impression - despite its severity, it is quite harmonious and cozy.
