Arran Island
Description:
On the north side of the island there are high mountains and deep gorges, and on the warm soft south there are swamps, forests, farmland and even some excellent sandy beaches, which are quite difficult to reach. On the southeast coast there are more accessible resorts Lemlash and Whiting Bay, and in the west there are vertical stones Mehri Moor, where six stone circles have survived since Neolithic times.
The island has been inhabited for thousands of years by Britons, Romans, Varangians and all of them have left their mark, which is now a large collection of archaeological sites. On the island you can find a variety of outdoor activities, there is a beautiful road for cyclists, which circles the entire island.
On the eastern shore, near a wide bay, surrounded by mountains, is the main city of Arrana and the ferry pier - Brodik. And at the foot of the highest mountain Goat Fell, just to the north, is Brodik Castle with remarkable gardens containing one of Europe's finest collections of rhododendrons.
In the northern part of the island you can visit Lokhrazza - this is a remarkable village with the ruins of the castle of the XIII century, standing on the isthmus. The northern territory of Arran is the territory of amazing golden eagles. The bare granite cliffs and enchantingly harsh surroundings provide a stunning opportunity for walking and climbing.
