Glamis Castle
Dundee Rd, Glamis, Forfar, Angus DD8 1RJ, UK
Description:
Glamis Castle is interesting because it was there that the mother of the current Queen Elizabeth spent her childhood and youth. Here she gave birth to her first daughter Margaret.
Also, the world fame of the castle brought William Shakespeare, who in the work “Macbeth” settled his heroes in this house, in the Duncan Hall room. Many tourists hope to see ghosts in the castle, about which rumors go. The building has a secret room, the windows of which are visible from the courtyard, but there is no entrance.
The castle was built in the XI century. It was originally the hunting house of the Scottish kings. In the XIV century, the castle was transferred to the possession of the Counts of Strathmore, whose heirs still own it. However, the modern building is significantly different from its original version: in the XVII century it was thoroughly rebuilt.
Inside the castle are paintings and sculptures, valuable books, and outside the castle is surrounded by picturesque gardens.
