Urhart Castle

Drumnadrochit, Inverness, Inverness-shire, IV63 6XJ

Description:

Urhart Castle is located on the shore of the famous Loch Ness Lake, offering a magnificent view of the lake and the scenery surrounding the castle. It is one of the largest castles in Scotland, with over 1000 years of history.

The castle was the site of many wars, including the Scottish independence, and was destroyed several times. Many medieval artifacts were found on the territory of the castle. Today, Urhart is one of Scotland’s most popular attractions, with around 290,000 visitors in 2010.

Due to its location on the hill, the castle tower offers a beautiful view of the lake, from where many have observed the Loch Ness monster. Also available for visitors is a cafe and a souvenir shop and audio and video presentations about the history of the castle.
