John Knox House Museum

43-45 High Street, Edinburgh, Midlothian EH1 1SR

About the company:

John Knox entered the history of Great Britain as one of the leaders of the Reformation of the XVI century. One of Edinburgh’s historic buildings houses a museum dedicated to John Knox. It is believed that the famous Protestant reformer lived here and died here in 1572.

There are various theories about where the reformer really lived, but in the minds of the Scots this mansion of the late fifteenth century is strongly associated with his name. The John Knox Museum is one of the most interesting museums in Edinburgh. It is small, but there is an absolutely amazing atmosphere, which is supported by personal belongings, antique furniture, stained glass windows and hand painting on the ceiling.

The museum exposition tells about the Reformation. On one of the floors of the building, the lyrics of Knox’s sermons are heard, as well as church music. And in another hall you can listen to an audio recording of his debate with Queen Mary Stuart of Scotland, who, as you know, was an ardent Catholic. Coming to the John Knox House Museum, the traveler gets a real opportunity to approach the most dramatic events in the history of Great Britain.
