William Burrell Collection Museum

Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom

About the company:

In 1944, Sir William Burrell donated an amazing collection of exhibits to the City of Glasgow. The collection of the businessman numbered about 9 thousand works and was recognized as the pearl of the Renaissance of the city of Glasgow.

Burrell was passionate about art all his life and collected works that later became exhibited in the museum, built for the collection in 1983. The museum has amazing stained glass windows, through which as much light passes as the exhibits require. On the first floor there is a hall for exhibitions, on the second - for paintings by Burrell. Opposite the lobby are pavilions dedicated to Middle Eastern art, ancient civilizations and collections by period. To his right are halls with sculpture and tapestries. In the museum of philanthropist Burrell you can find works of creators of ancient Rome, Greece, Egypt and China, famous impressionists, collections of weapons and armor, tapestries, as well as objects of Islamic and medieval art.

It should be noted that all works are originals. The William Burrell Collection Museum is famous for the paintings of the amazing Dutch master Matthias Maris, popular in the XIX century. One of the most interesting tapestries in the museum is a tapestry called “Scenes from the Life of Christ and the Virgin Mary”.
